Georgia and Azerbaijan Sign Agreement on 20-Year Natural Gas Supply
Ekaterine Sisauri, General Director of the Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation (GOGC) and Rovshan Najaf, President of the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), have signed an agreement to conclude a new 20-year contract for the purchase and sale of natural gas.
The existing contract for the purchase and sale of additional gas signed in 2003 between GOGC and the supplier is set to expire in 2026. The extension of this agreement for a further 20 years is therefore of particular strategic significance, especially within the framework of the South Caucasus Pipeline project. The new deal will also provide GOGC with an additional, alternative source of natural gas, further strengthening the uninterrupted delivery of energy resources to Georgia.
The full volume of natural gas covered by the contract will be allocated to meeting demand in Georgia's social gas sector, replacing the additional volumes currently required for this purpose.
The partnership is comprehensive in scope and extends well beyond gas supply alone. It covers several key areas of cooperation, including support for major international transit projects such as the South Caucasus Pipeline, the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline, and the Baku-Supsa oil pipeline.
Ekaterine Sisauri traveled to Baku alongside Mariam Kvrivishvili, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, as part of the Georgian Prime Minister's official state visit.
