Construction of the main gas pipeline "Zestaponi- Kutaisi” section has been completed

The Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation has completed the construction of DN700 Zestaponi-Kutaisi 23 km section of the high pressure main gas pipeline.

Rehabilitation of the above section was predetermined by the necessity to replace DN 500 mm damaged pipes as well as problematic crossings of rivers and ravines. As a result of the project implementation, the gas pipeline throughput as well as reliability of the entire main gas pipeline system have significantly increased.

Construction of Zestaponi-Kutaisi 23 km section of the high pressure main gas pipeline began in spring 2014 and was carried out by the international tender-winning Georgian company - Ltd SaqMilsadenMsheni. Construction of Zestaponi-Kutaisi section was implemented within the frames of East-West Main Gas Pipeline Rehabilitation project phase IV and funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Contractual price of Zestaponi-Kutaisi 23 km section construction was USD 4 496 765, 47.

USAID allocated USD 78 mln. for rehabilitation of gas infrastructure to the Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation within the framework of the "Energy Infrastructure Rehabilitation Project". After completion of the program, the throughput of the western route of the main gas pipeline system of Georgia will increase, because 500 DN pipeline will be replaced by 700 DN pipeline.

Construction of Senaki-Poti 30 km section, Abasha-Senaki 29 km section and Kutaisi-Abasha 47 km section of the high pressure gas pipeline has already been carried out within the framework of the first three phases of the "Energy Infrastructure Rehabilitation Project".
